Anju Modi showcased a collection that “captures the grandeur of the Mughal era” through Mughal Angrakhas with draped pants, layered tunics, sarees and lehengas in colours like ivory and black with a dash of maroon and made of Varanasi brocades, velvets, nets and tissues.

“The collection is called Maya and there is a little spirituality to it. The message is that life is continuous and I tried to show that how life keeps on happening as we try to see what life is, what God is and what luxury truly is,” Modi remarked.
Designer Indian Clothing from Jattinn Kochhar presented a collection called “Black Magic” where black, metallic ash highlights and various interpretations of the classic zebra print were displayed in the form of gowns, cocktail dresses and jumpsuits in asymmetrical shoulder, drapes, pinafore and empire line.
“The collection has a hint of black magic but everything is simple and all of it is wearable,” Kochhar said.
Designer duo Paras and Shalini brought forward a collection called “Whispering Flowers” while presenting a reinterpretation of old world charm with its feminine and delicate look.
“The dresses are very elegant, pretty and feminine. There is a lot of tonal work and we have used symphony embroidery,” Paras said.

Eva Mendes, 34, explained the circumstances under which a glimpse of her 'girl' made it to Calvin Klein's 'Secret Obsession' perfume commercial, which was not aired by US networks for being too provocative.

"That was me doing what I do… that is rolling around in sheets…

"I am the face of their new perfume 'Secret Obsession' I was rolling around in bed for the commercial spot. You know…I had a little situation…one of the girls wanted to say hello without letting anybody know so she…basically I had a nipple slippage. It made the commercial because it was so natural and so beautiful and it was very quick.

"We can show guns every where but we can't show woman's nipple. That is a little backwards to me."

The creative director for the commercial, Fabien Baron, earlier expressed his frustration at the commercial's rejection saying:

"You must be kidding me. This country really needs a new president - this country is so messed up," said Baron. "It's such a joke and it's quite upsetting, frankly, how hypocritical this country has become. It's OK for children to see people killed by guns? Spreading a little love right now would be a good idea.

"She is being a little sexy, but they are not provocative," added Baron. "They are really well done. The spot is really beautiful - I really can't believe this is happening.…I don't know what else to say."

Despite being pulled off the networks, or possibly because of being pulled off the networks, the commercial has become a rage on the internet, giving Calvin Klein a lot of publicity at no cost.

Bringing out the beauty in women outside of the established New York fashion world is Chanel Clark's goal in establishing the Miss NYC Plus organization. "Living in New York City, when it comes to fashion, you don't see plus sizes," she said, talking about what led her to provide a showplace for them. "I felt it was overdue."

She produced the first Miss NYC Plus Pageant in March this year, offering a chance for women size 12 to 26 to gather at an event all their own. With professional consulting from wardrobe stylist Jaquette E. Jones and runway coach Robert Mallory, himself a plus-size person, those who entered the pageant learned to express themselves in the way they dress and move.

Talking about the response to the pageant, Clark said, "It was surreal, overwhelming. I never expected such a response! We filled every seat and people were even standing up. It was phenomenal."

As awareness spreads about the unhealthy effect the super-thin runway models have on young girls, it is not just the plus-sized ladies who are responding enthusiastically to her project. "People from in and outside of the plus community have been pulling for us," Clark remarked. "It's inspiring me to do more in New York City for plus models on the catwalk."

Wren’s Big Dress showcased these textiles in a hoop-supported skirt with tiers of ruffles. But before the fashion show when each designer had a display (installation) with live models (in many variations on a sitting room tableau mostly), there was someone on hand at R.A.W.’s display to show us a swatch book of the silks hand-dyed, hand-painted with vegetable dyes and with rust. She will represent Australia at the Miss World title in Ukraine in September.

The Miss World competition says it is not simply a beauty pageant but a means of raising money for charity, raking in $2 million last year alone.

Organizations representing fashion houses, advertising firms and media outlets — with the backing of the French minister of health — on Wednesday, in Paris, signed a charter of good conduct about the future use of top model body images to stave off growing concerns about anorexia. Several of the signers viewed the formal move as a "first step" toward helping to combat the eating disorder.

On the same day, a law project made the case before a commission at France's National Assembly, to punish those people or organizations that help to propagate unhealthy body images. Parliament members will examine this law project next week.

The voluntary charter outlines a series of guidelines but falls short of imposing restrictions.

"This charter is a good thing. We are showing a direction to follow. But it's on the basis of voluntarism, [and] there is nothing coercive," Caroline Tancrède, deputy editor in chief of French family magazine Femme Actuelle, and a signatory of the charter, told ABC News.

The signers pledge "not to accept using pictures of people, in particular youth, which could contribute to [or] promote a model of extreme thinness." Those who signed the charter commit to "heighten public awareness about the acceptance of physical diversity.

Or should they? The young women of America today are caught in a whirlwind of conflicting messages from the media. When socialites are glorified for not very much other than being rich and having a sex tape, and Christian role models are appearing scantily clad or having sex scandals, what's a girl got to do to get famous?

That's the dilemma explored in American Girls, the new play by Hilary Bettis. Amanda (Ms. Bettis) and Katie (Kira Sternbach) are two rather unpopular middle school girls from Iowa who decide to get fake IDs and enter a dance competition they saw an ad for in the paper. Of course the competition is an amateur stripper's night, and the two ditch their Hello Kitty gear and retainers and dance in their scanties for a bunch of drooling men. They get the card of a "Hollywood agent", who brings them back to his place for a "screen test", which turns out to be an amateur porn flick. A $500 later, they're excited and waiting for news of their big break. When bits of their screen test show up on YouTube and the girls get picked up by the cops, they get their story straight- they were raped. This leads to an appearance on an Oprah-like talk show, where the girls discuss their ordeal and become famous.

Bettis' dialogue is note-perfect, capturing the hilariously banal concerns of day-to-day school life, as well as the girls hunger for fame. Celebrity names are dropped right and left, from Paris Hilton to Miley Cyrus to Zac Efron. An intriguing staging is to have Amanda obsessed with her new camcorder, recording most of the events, some of which are shown on television screens ranged around the stage, continuing the story as the live girls change costumes; here more actors appear: Maxwell Zener as the smarmy "Hollywood agent" Frank Miller (the name an amusing shout-out to the whore-obsessed graphic novelist); and the hilarious Traci Hovel as talk show host Dr. Opal Banks. Disembodied voices are also provided by Scott Johnson, Adam Hirsch, Mark Chin, and Sydney Cohen.

Although the show is only 70 minutes, a few of the scenes feel overlong, but it's a great first play from Bettis. The action is kept moving by director Jeff Cohen. The set design by Ryan Elliot Kravetz is a abstract cross and a carpeted plinth, giving an ecclesiastic feel. Lighting design by Evan Purcell is impressive, going from police interrogation lights to backlit stripper heat. Costumes by Gail Cooper-Hecht perfectly capture the awkward middle school ages as well as the meretricious costumes the girls assume for their "dance competition". Painfully earnest Christian rock is the pre-show to get the audience in the mood.

Jay-Z – real name Shawn Carter – and 26-year-old Beyoncé applied for a marriage licence last Tuesday and married on Friday night.

Despite refusing to officially announce their new status as husband and wife, Jay-Z's tour companion Mary congratulated the couple on stage in North Carolina on Sunday.

Following the nuptials on Friday, the 38-year-old hip-hop star and his bride flew to Greensboro, North Carolina, where the rapper was performing at the city's Coliseum venue.

Photographed stepping out of their private jet at Greensboro airport, the low-key couple hid from photographers, who spotted a wedding band on Jay-Z's left hand.

On stage on Sunday, Mary said: "Congratulations to my man, Jay-Z, and my girl, B," before dedicating her song You're All I Need to the newlyweds.

After the couple's wedding ceremony, they threw a lavish party for a group of 30 at Jay's apartment in the fashionable New York district of TriBeCa.

A large white marquee was erected on the top of the building and audio-visual equipment, large flower arrangements and a 5ft tall candelabra were also brought in.

Celebrity florist Amy's Orchids was hired to provide more than 50,000 white orchids from Thailand.

Police Forced To Take Naomi Campbell Off Plane

British police had to escort super Fashion model Naomi Campbell off of a flight at London’s Heathrow airport on Thursday. The flight was heading to the U.S.

According to a spokesman for the airport, police were forced to remove a passenger.

It is believed that the person that had to be removed was Campbell.

Reports state that she assaulted an officer on the flight.

The plane was going to head to Los Angeles, California.

This comes just after Campbell had to spend five days doing community service for throwing a cell phone at her maid.

But a £60,700 diamond thong became very much the centre of attention at a show during the Singapore Fashion Festival.

The Triumph Luxurious Diamond Thong had 518 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 30 carats, which were studded into a floral pattern on the front of the garment.

Romanian model Danielle Luminita was hoisted onto the shoulders of two male models, who paraded the thong-wearing blonde down the catwalk.

"It is very comfortable, it's not heavy or scratchy or anything," Luminita said backstage.

The thong was commissioned by Triumph International, who said the garment would be drycleaned before being put on display.

A 200-year-old faded picture of a leaf, stylish shots of glamorous fashion models, an array of long-lost freak-show snaps - all could make big money at next week's photography sales in New York, where more than 1,000 lots convey the enormous diversity of taste for which this market now caters.


	Sophisticated: Mouth for L’Oréal (1986) by Irving Penn

The most intriguing is the picture of the leaf. Bought in London in 1984 for about £6,000, it was thought by the buyer, New York dealer Hans P Kraus, to be a photogenic drawing (an image traced by solar rays of an object placed on light-sensitive paper) of c.1839 by William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the founding fathers of photography. As such it would now be worth between £50,000 and £75,000, according to Sotheby's photography expert Denise Bethel.

But independent scholar Dr Larry J Schaaf, who has written the sale catalogue entry, thinks it might have been made more than 20 years earlier, possibly by Thomas Wedgwood, a member of the Wedgwood china family, who first started experimenting with primitive forms of photography in the 1790s. This would make it the oldest photograph in existence.

No examples of Wedgwood's photographs are known to have survived, so this, says Bethel, might be "one of the most important discoveries in the history of photography". As such, she adds, "the sky could be the limit" in terms of prices, so no price guide has been given. The record for a photograph was set two years ago when Edward Steichen's The Pond-Moonlight (1904) sold for £1.4m.

The leaf picture is part of the sale of the Quillan collection, formed by an investment group during the late Eighties to "represent photography's achievements from its beginnings to the near present". Especially strong on 19th-century photographs, it also includes rare experimental 20th-century works and just touches on celebrity pictures with Richard Avedon's understated 1957 portrait of Marilyn Monroe (£35,000 to £50,000).

A married man who used to be a woman says that he is pregnant and will give birth to a baby girl in July.

“How does it feel to be a pregnant man? Incredible,” wrote Thomas Beatie, 34, from the Pacific North West of the United States, in the latest issue of the gay magazine The Advocate.

“Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am.”

Mr Beatie was born female, named Tracy Lagondino, but had gender reassignment surgery and is now legally male and married to a woman.

He decided to carry a baby for his wife, Nancy, because she had a hysterectomy years ago. He was able to get pregnant because he kept his female organs when he switched genders.

“Sterilisation is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights,” he writes. “Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire but a human desire.” The couple, who have been together for ten years, run a custom screenprinting business in Bend, Oregon, where neighbours do not know that Mr Beatie was once a woman.

A nude portrait of French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni is to go under the hammer.

Carla Bruni will go under the hammer in New York next month, according to auctioneers Christie's.

It was taken in 1993, when Bruni was one of the world's top fashion models.

It is expected to fetch $3,000 to $4,000 when it is sold in New York on April 10, according to the Christie's web site.
Ms Bruni, the first non-French first lady of France arrives in Britain today and is likely to attract as much, if not more, attention than her husband during the couple's state visit.

The Italian-born supermodel, now a pop singer, has seemed less starry-eyed than her husband about their whirlwind, high-profile romance and marriage.

She was all hostile.”

BURLESQUE beauty Dita Von Teese has sued a company she claims hasn't paid her for several shows she performed in London last November.
Dita, whose real name is Heather Sweet, filed the breach of contract suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court today alleging Erotica Limited owes her $25,000 for her appearance at their 2007 trade show, TMZ reports.

According to court documents, the former Mrs. Marilyn Manson was such a hit when she first performed at the 2006 show, organizers began negotiating in April for her to appear again in November. She says she agreed to perform her show two times daily in London for $50,000 -- twice what she had been paid the year before.

The suit also alleges Erotica Limited put Von Teese's picture on the show's pamphlet and advertised the event on radio and in print, according to popular gossip site, TMZ.com.

Von Teese claims Erotica Limited paid her $25,000 after they signed the deal, but still owes her another $25,000. She also says EL has gone completely off the radar and have cut off all contact with her and her reps.

Despite allegedly not paying her, Von Teese claims the company has reportedly already used her 2007 performances to promote this year's event.

Thailand-born, L.A.-based designer Koi Suwannagate had her debut runway show at Bumble and bumble on Feb. 5. The colors and contours of the natural world informed this collection to beautiful effect. Oranges, blues, and warm earth tones dominated, as the models walked to the accompaniment of forest sounds. Police in Paris have found the body of one of the world's first black supermodels, a month after she went missing on her way home from a party.

Katoucha Niane, who became a global catwalk star in the 1980s, disappeared on 31 January while returning to her houseboat moored in the centre of Paris. Her body, which a passer-by spotted under a bridge on Thursday, bore no marks that suggested she had been attacked. "She fell into the water and went straight to the bottom," a source close to the investigation said.

Police said a post-mortem examination would be performed to establish whether the 47-year-old had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when she fell into the water, and whether drowning was the cause of death.

Katoucha, as she was universally known, was one of the first black African models to achieve worldwide stardom. Only after she had stepped down from the catwalk, at the age of 34, did she reveal the traumatic secret from her childhood in Guinea, west Africa, that lay behind the self control and sense of powerful femininity that she displayed in her professional life.

Modelling, she said, was a kind of revenge for the terrible experience of genital mutilation which she was put through, in accordance with custom in parts of Africa, when she was just nine years old. "One day, my mother said we were going to the cinema. And I found myself the victim of a horror movie, an unimaginable trauma that I had never managed to talk about, until I found love and wrote In My Flesh" she wrote in her autobiography, In My Flesh, published in 1994.

After that, she wrote: "I embodied the most arrogant and admired kind of femininity, I who was supposed to be diminished."

French police have confirmed that a body found in the River Seine in Paris was that of the Guinean former top model, Katoucha Niane.

Her body was spotted under a bridge by a passer-by a month after she vanished.

Officials said her death seemed to be accidental, but that a post-mortem examination was needed to determine the exact cause of death.

McCartney and Facchinetti, who was making her debut at Valentino, opened the schedule with differing viewpoints on how their upscale customers would like to look in the coming winter.

McCartney offered an ode to the modern medieval woman with long cloaks and cardigan coats in wool-felt, handmade by village artisans in Somerset, which were printed with heraldic symbols and faux coats-of-arms. Blanket-inspired knits, in earth-toned stripes enfolded the body. Suits and coats with wide, kimono-sleeves were in the same wool-felt, in muted charcoal and metallic silver.

Snjezana was born in Slavonski Brod, but has been living in Zagreb for quite a while. The other girls are also happy that Snjezana won, because according to them, she deserves it.

The winner studies at the faculty for hotel and tourism management in Opatija, and it is her wish to become a manager. Along with the title, she also won a Mitsubishi Colt Cabrio.

SAO PAULO, Brazil - Naomi Campbell was hospitalized in Sao Paulo for the removal of a small cyst, her publicist said. The nation's in-denial attitude towards growing waistlines has become a concern for medical experts, who fear ignoring a growing girth could mean missing key warning signs for developing type 2 diabetes. Up to 750,000 people in the UK are currently unaware they have type 2 diabetes.

Leicester University, revealed men underestimated their waist size by an average of 3.1 inches (7.9cm) and women by an average of 2.2 inches (5.5cm).

After questioning 502 people, researchers discovered people from white European backgrounds were worse than those from South Asian backgrounds when estimating their waistlines.

Professor Kamlesh Khunti, who led the research, said: 'This research shows that people need to be educated about the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and about accurately assessing their waist circumference.'

Douglas Smallwood, of the charity Diabetes UK, said: 'To believe that you are more than three inches slimmer than you are is to ignore a clear warning of a risk of diabetes.'

The pop star, who gave birth to son Max last month, was looking swell when she popped out for dinner in Hollywood last night.

The 27-year-old singer flaunted her post-pregnancy buxom figure despite being dressed down in a Knicks baseball cap and grey cardigan.

Aguilera is clearly revelling in her motherhood - and her new-and-improved figure.

She has called her bust 'amazing' and gushed in radio interviews about her "incredible" son.

The 'Dirrty' singer said that she and husband Jordan Bratman are revelling in parenthood: "Every week something new happens.

"It's constant changing and he's constantly changing and doing these incredibly cute things - and stinky things."

But there are reports that not everything in her life is not as uplifting.

According to Perezhilton.com, she is said to be fuming about the lack of interest in her recent People magazine cover in the U.S. and fired members of her team after sales of copies featuring the star and her son sold less than the normal amount.

From her infamous plunging cream frock to her latest daring low-slung backless gown, Holly Willoughby's wardrobe has continued to raise eyebrows in recent months.

But the Dancing On Ice presenter has revealed she has no intention of covering up her car-crash curves any time soon.

In a new interview, the 27-year-old says: “I'm not going to change my entire wardrobe just because of what people have said. I love the dresses I wear, I think they are beautiful and until I think differently, I'll carry on.

“I'm womanly, I have boobs and hips and I dress to accommodate them - that's not going to change. Why should it?”

HOLLYWOOD — The movie industry must have woken up from the writers’ strike with a rotten hangover, unable to even think about frivolous things like parties and frocks. It was such a buzz kill that quite a few of the actors on the red carpet at the Academy Awards looked as if they either couldn’t be bothered with fashion this year — so not superficial were they — or had dressed in the dark on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The hits were few and the misses, well, seemed to be less a result of actresses who dare to risk the wrath of the fashion policethan a general sense of red carpet malaise.

“I think a lot of people are being safe,” Kimora Lee Simmons, usually a fashion extrovert, commented on the E! channel. “Safe to me reads like boring.”

Certainly the stars deserved some leeway, but you would think that after months of Hollywood gloom and doom, the fashion would have been a little more upbeat. Instead, there seemed to be only two choices — wear red and be seriously appropriate or wear black and be appropriately serious.

African designer's dream: putting 'umugwegwe' on the map

PARIS (AFP) — When young fashion designer Bill Ruterana was looking for inspiration and cheap material to make clothes in his native Rwanda, he found it sprouting under his feet.

"Umugwegwe", a plant something like flax or raffia, grows prolifically in Rwanda and when treated produces a frothy wool-like fibre.

Ruterana used it to spectacular effect in his latest collection unveiled this weekend at the second edition of Paris' "Labo Ethnik World Fashion Show" spotlighting African, Caribbean and multi-cultural design.

"Umugwegwe serves no real purpose but is a goldmine for me. It grows everywhere and it's very easy to work with," said the slight 24-year-old, who is such a fan that he used it not only for flamboyant multicoloured head-dresses but even for a show-stopping wedding gown.

He discovered that by pulverising the plant he could tease out fibres and colour them with vegetable dyes.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ruterana moved to Kigali in 1994 at the age of 10, just after the genocide that left 800,000 people dead, according to the UN.

"I saw bombs, mines, piles of corpses on the roads and in bushes, my friends with hands and feet chopped off," he says. The trauma if anything left him determined to succeed. A cartoonist and artist by training, he turned to fashion after painting dancers' bodies for a festival.

The young French designer Christophe Decarnin at Balmain produced a collection which was the exact reverse of over-the-knee skirts and restrained, autumnal tones.

With its micro-minis, Sex Pistols’ tartans, sock-it-to-me glitz, cave-woman leathers and crystal-embroidered animal prints, the show had all the subtlety of a kick in the teeth with a pair of Dr Martens and could not have been further from the ethos of the founder of the house, Pierre Balmain, who believed in ‘elegance from simplicity’.

Decarnin’s microscopic shift dresses glittered with red and black lightning flashes or shiny, beaded tiger-stripes and were accessorized with spike-heeled, black suede booties, with a fringe of leather around the ankle.

Body-hugging tube dresses, which covered just enough to avoid infringing laws of public decency, were emblazoned with crystal leopard-prints. A black leather scrap of a dress, with a ragged hemline that could have been chewed by a woolly mammoth, was encrusted with big cat spots in silver mesh.

Catwalk's in the bag for this breed

DON'T be fooled by their lithe figures. Over the past three weeks these Aussie models ate New York, swallowed London and chewed up Milan. And they are hungry for more, with Paris for dessert next week.

The 2008 fashion circuit will go down as the year Australian models reigned supreme, treading a catwalk worn down by the likes of the "veteran" expat clothes horse Gemma Ward, who after five years and at the tender age of 20 has all but retired from the runway world with about $10 million in the bank to concentrate on her Hollywood career.

In her wake are the Australians Abbey Lee Kershaw, Catherine McNeil, Jessica Gomes, Alice Burdeu, Tiah Eckhardt, Skye Stracke, Vanessa Milde , Miranda Kerr, Nicole Trunfio and Alexandra Agoston, who have become the toast of the notoriously fickle international modelling world, some being paid $60,000 for a single parade while others are taking home $500,000 pay cheques from some of the world's biggest fashion names.

"I think it has become easier for Australian models since Gemma's success … I guess the international market just takes more notice of the girls coming out of Australia now," says the boss of Chic Models, Kathy Ward, who has watched many flourish in the northern hemisphere in recent weeks.

While the likes of the lingerie babe Kerr epitomise the image of sun-kissed, voluptuous Aussie beauty made famous by Elle Macpherson two decades ago, it is on the runway that Australian models are being noticed. In the flesh they stand head and shoulders above "normal" girls, moving their freakishly long limbs with a distinct awkwardness.

But on the catwalk and under the intense spotlights of a fashion show they are the thoroughbreds of modelling.

McNeil was quickly booked for more than 30 shows at Milan and Paris fashion weeks, which makes her one of the hottest models in the world right now. Last year she worked exclusively for six months with the fashion photographer Mario Testino.

Kershaw, who like McNeil won the Girlfriend magazine cover girl title and a modelling contract with Chic Models in Sydney, had 29 runway shows in New York. On Thursday she scored a Gucci coup in Milan, being signed to walk exclusively for Gucci.

The Herald fashion writer Kellie Hush said she might not be earning the estimated $50,000-$60,000 McNeil is paid per show yet, but a deal taking a model off the runway for a Milan season could be worth $500,000.
