Topless Fashion Model Does Selfridge’s Glamour

selfridges-topless.jpgUNFAIR indeed that while glamour models get to be glamorous and offer opinion – today the Sun’s Ruth says “I wish Gazza all the best” – fashion models must remain mute and vapid.

Which means we don’t get to hear the thoughts of the model posing topless in the window of London’s Selfridge’s department store. The Star and the Sport don’t even know her name.

The Anorak wonders if this can be put down to class? While the below stairs glamour models are obliged to be gobby, feisty and opinionated while dressed as nurses, waitresses and maids (cleaners), the more demure catwalk models are required to remain refined and aloof, the embodiment of the “polite conversation”.

The fashion model might be topless but we should remain middle class and not mention it, opting instead to look at her shoes and talk about this year’s black…

Koi Suwannagate – New York Fashion Week

Thailand-born, L.A.-based designer Koi Suwannagate had her debut runway show at Bumble and bumble on Feb. 5. The colors and contours of the natural world informed this collection to beautiful effect. Suwannagate brought an artisanal, hand-made quality to her creations, which were each meticulously crafted and one-of-a-kind. Oranges, blues, and warm earth tones dominated, as the models walked to the accompaniment of forest sounds. Cashmere and silk were her primary materials, adorned with flowers and hummingbirds taking flight. “I pictured a lush forest and lake setting with colorful hummingbirds as a true sanctuary,” she explained in describing her inspiration for her fall 2008 collection.

While this was Suwannagate’s first runway show, she is far from a fashion novice. Recently, she garnered much attention for the sculpted rose designs she contributed to 3.1 Phillip Lim’s spring 2007 collection. Her dresses have been worn by Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Oprah Winfrey and Christina Ricci. Viewing her latest collection, it is easy to see why such prominent women have been drawn to her clothing. These clearly comfortable sweaters, vests, and dresses, while never losing sight of their functional purpose, are aesthetically pleasing, their curves flattering their wearer’s natural shapes. The collision and harmony of contrasting shapes and lines also hold much visual interest, proving Koi Suwannagate to be a major talent who will undoubtedly be a fascinating designer to watch.

Supermodel Katoucha found dead in river Seine

Police in Paris have found the body of one of the world's first black supermodels, a month after she went missing on her way home from a party.

Katoucha Niane, who became a global catwalk star in the 1980s, disappeared on 31 January while returning to her houseboat moored in the centre of Paris. Her body, which a passer-by spotted under a bridge on Thursday, bore no marks that suggested she had been attacked. "She fell into the water and went straight to the bottom," a source close to the investigation said.

Police said a post-mortem examination would be performed to establish whether the 47-year-old had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when she fell into the water, and whether drowning was the cause of death.

Katoucha, as she was universally known, was one of the first black African models to achieve worldwide stardom. Only after she had stepped down from the catwalk, at the age of 34, did she reveal the traumatic secret from her childhood in Guinea, west Africa, that lay behind the self control and sense of powerful femininity that she displayed in her professional life.

Modelling, she said, was a kind of revenge for the terrible experience of genital mutilation which she was put through, in accordance with custom in parts of Africa, when she was just nine years old. "One day, my mother said we were going to the cinema. And I found myself the victim of a horror movie, an unimaginable trauma that I had never managed to talk about, until I found love and wrote In My Flesh" she wrote in her autobiography, In My Flesh, published in 1994.

After that, she wrote: "I embodied the most arrogant and admired kind of femininity, I who was supposed to be diminished."

French police have confirmed that a body found in the River Seine in Paris was that of the Guinean former top model, Katoucha Niane.

Her body was spotted under a bridge by a passer-by a month after she vanished.

Officials said her death seemed to be accidental, but that a post-mortem examination was needed to determine the exact cause of death.

She was one of the first black African models to become a global catwalk star, in the 1980s.

The mother of three, originally from Guinea, disappeared after being dropped off from a party. Her handbag was later recovered near the houseboat where she lived.

Paris Fashion Week: Stella McCartney / Valentino

Fashion and music intertwined at the Paris prêt-à-porter season yesterday as two daughters of pop-stars unveiled their collections for next autumn/winter.

McCartney’s ‘medieval’ dress

On one hand was Stella McCartney, daughter of Sir Paul McCartney, whose hits are two numerous to mention, and on the other, Alessandra Facchinetti, whose father is Roby Facchinetti, the Italian Euro-pop-baron of the 60’s and 70’s, most recently famous for penning the theme tune for the Atalanta football team.

McCartney and Facchinetti, who was making her debut at Valentino, opened the schedule with differing viewpoints on how their upscale customers would like to look in the coming winter.

McCartney offered an ode to the modern medieval woman with long cloaks and cardigan coats in wool-felt, handmade by village artisans in Somerset, which were printed with heraldic symbols and faux coats-of-arms. Blanket-inspired knits, in earth-toned stripes enfolded the body. Suits and coats with wide, kimono-sleeves were in the same wool-felt, in muted charcoal and metallic silver.

Long dresses in muslin, silk and paisley print, were reminiscent of a Maid Marion or Guinevere, and came in forest tones of sage, ivy, autumn-orange and leaf-brown, with off-the-shoulder necklines in hand-crochet and billowing sleeves, caught at the wrist.(source:telegraph.co.uk)

Twice divorced Pamela Anderson files for annulment of whirlwind nine-week marriage

Twice-divorced Pamela Anderson is seeking annulment of her nine-week marriage to Rick Salomon to Rick Salomon on the grounds of 'fraud.'

In newly released legal documents the 40-year-old Baywatch actress is citing 'fraud' as the reason for the annulment but does not go into any further detail.

In court papers filed last week she asked the court not to deny her third husband spousal support and to keep their income and property separate.

Third time unlucky: Pamela Anderson, seen here on the set of her new film, is seeking an annulment of her third marriage to husband Rick Salomn. The couple separated after just nine weeks

And in an attempt to keep the details of her third failed marriage secret, she has also filed a request to have a retired judge handle the annulment proceedings.

A common practice in celebrity break-ups in the US because it keeps matters private and out of the court.

Anderson and Salomon were married in Oct 6 2007 in Las Vegas and she filed for divorce on December 13.

Prior to his marriage to Pamela - his second and her third - he was best known for making a lurid sex tape with former girlfriend Paris Hilton and was previously married to actress Shannen Doherty.

Pamela was previously married to singer Kid Rock and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee.

As news of her bid for annulment was revealed, the former Baywatch star was back at work on the set of her new movie.

The former Baywatch star donned a skin-tight blue suit for her role as the Invisible Woman in the spoof of the box office hit Fantastic Four starring Jessica Alba.

In the film Pamela provides her own take on the superhero look, but it's not hard to see what her special powers might be.

The actress is no stranger to flaunting her figure as she recently took to the stage in Paris to perform a one-off show which saw her riding a a black motorcycle dressed in nothing but a body stocking, charging £150 per ticket.

The show, which took place at the notorious Crazy Horse, also featured Pamela dancing to Brigitte Bardot's hit song "Harley Davidson", according to a People.com report.

Amy Winehouse adds weirdest tattoo yet to her collection

She's already had enough tattoos to put a heavy metal rocker to shame, but Amy Winehouse's latest body etching appears to be her strangest yet.

The troubled singer, 24, was spotted showing off an American eagle behind a stars-and-stripes ankh cross as she left her London home yesterday.

As the king of birds, the eagle symbolises might and spiritual growth.

Unveiled: Winehouse flashes her bra and her new tattoo as she leaves her East London home yesterday

Winehouse decided to get the tattoo last month in a bid to boost her confidence as she struggles to overcome her drug troubles and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's jailing.

It is believed Winehouse spent several hours under the needle at her favourite tattooist's parlour in Camden Town, North London.

Among her tatoos are an angel, a horseshoe, a feather, a singing bird, an anchor, a lightning bolt, the words "Daddy's girl", three 1950s pin-up women, a Betty Boo and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's first name beside a pocket on her left breast.

Amy Winehouse in bra December 2007

Earlier this month, Winehouse was forced to cover up her topless woman tattoo when she performed at the Grammys so as not to upset any prudish audiences.

Instead of covering the busty lady with make-up, Winehouse drew a bra on her with black felt-tip pen.

Her mother Janis recently admitted she hated the tattoos and blamed the influence of Fielder-Civil, who has the word "Amy" tattooed behind his ear.

Janis told the Sunday Mirror: "She'd never taken class As before she met Blake. And that's when the tattoos went bananas, too. That dreadful one saying 'Blake's' on her breast - I hate that.

"It was like when Amy got her Daddy's Girl tattoo. She asked me, 'Do you want me to get mummy tattooed, too?' I said, 'No, don't worry'. That's not my thing."

Winehouse is currently receiving outpatient rehab treatment at the Capio Nightingale Clinic in North London.

Alan Titchmarsh hits rock bottom in erogenous feature

He was once the darling of housewives across the land but now Alan Titchmarsh appears to be aiming for a slightly racier fanbase.

The former Gardeners' World favourite can be seen searching for a model's erogenous zones while presenting Alan's Cheeky Bits, a saucy segment on his new ITV daytime show.

To the embarrassment of both himself and the studio audience, Titchmarsh was challenged to put stickers on a bikini-wearing model named Kelly.

An audience member said: "He looked like he didn't know where to put his hands when given the job of putting stickers on to the model.

"He also used a feather duster under Kelly's armpit at one point, as the show's resident sex expert told him that area was one of the erogenous zones."

It is not the first time Titchmarsh has courted the seedier side of television.

Fashion Babes Hunting Guys Instead Of Foxes

PHOTO: Babes Hunting Guys Instead Of Foxes

After transforming Oscar award winner for best female role Marion Cotillard into the Little Mermaid with a golden statue in her hand, French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier has presented his 2008/2009 autumn/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Even though barbaric hordes from the East ruled his current pret a porter collection, Mongols to be precise, it still contained elegance, nearly in the same amount as displayed by his haute couture collection, presented a month ago in Paris. Gaultier`s Little Mermaid has transformed into a warrior who has hunting souvenirs on her head. Like most collections for the upcoming winter, Jean Paul`s is also wrapped up in fur. He chose foxes, attaching them whole on the coat collar or placing them on the head as hats.

The collection is ruled by earthy tones. Feminine silhouettes were made complete with tight silk dresses, tunics and trousers with Chinese motifs featuring nature, plants or animals. But, his nomads have high heels as symbols of contemporary women and high chic in stead of horses between their legs – thus equipped, they have substituted their fox hunt with man hunt. Issey Miyake – Paper Dolls

PHOTO: Issey Miyake – Paper Dolls

During the Paris Fashion Week, fashion company Issey Miyake presented its newest autumn/winter women collection.

The Japanese label proved devotion to its experimental aesthetics with a series of clothes made in paper.

Their design way far from the paper clothes from the 1960s, when A-cut dresses without sleeves were characterised by a geometric design and Warhol prints, designer Dai Fujiwara said that the aim was to capture the fears connected to our planet.

Fujiwara presented a series of dresses and suits with stretched and folded paper as to create an effect of turgescent glass around the models’ body.

He stated that the theme of the review exhibited at the “Museum of Man” was life and death in the context of ecological crisis – a trend that came up during this fashion cycle and that ends this Sunday in Paris.

IFTA Celebrity Hitch-Hiker Award Goes To: Lorraine Keane

Here at ShowBiz Ireland we're noticed a certain phenomenon amongst members of the Irish media. A phenomenon we're calling "Celebrity Hitch-Hiking." It occurs when a journalist or a TV presenter or an Up-and-Comer grabs a well known celeb and hitches their wagon to the stardust emanating from their far-more-famous target, thus stealing a tiny twinkle of their limelight. At this year's IFTAs we're giving the CHH Award to TV3's Xpose presenter Lorraine Keane for sticking out her thumb and catching a ride with Bo Derek...

Lorraine Keane, Bo Derek

RTE's Kathryn Thomas may have stolen Lorraine Keane's thunder by winning the TV Personality of the Year award at the IFTAs this year. But there was no way in hell she was going to get the Celebrity Hitch Hiker Award away from Keano at the Shelbourne after party...

Kathryn Thomas

As a glowing-in-her-own-splendor Kathryn Thomas emerged from her car at the plush Shelbourne hotel, clutching her golden bounty, she must have thought she was the cat-that-got-the-cream. But Lorraine 'I was doing ShowBiz when you were in nappies' Keane still had an ace to play.

Xpose Girls: Karen Koster, Aisling O'Loughlin, Lisa Cannon

As her defeated and dejected Xpose co-presenters looked to their leader for inspiration in their time of greatest need, Lorrie grabbed the nearest celebrity in a headlock (in this case Bo Derek) and said: "Hey snappers! Come to Mammy." And they did.

Karen Koster, Hector, Aisling O'Loughlin, Ryan Tubridy, Lisa Cannon

The rest of the Irish TV presenting fraternity just stood back and watched in awe as Mrs. O’ShowBiz did her thing. It's thought Ryan Tubridy even turned to Hector O’Gobsheen with a tear of admiration in his eye and said: "Just watch her son. One day that could be you... One day."

Kathy Hoffman, Rene Russo

But the story doesn't end there. Oh, no friends. A newcomer to the world of Irish TV presenting, Kathy Hoffman, wanted some of the action. In one flawless move she CHH'd Lethal Weapon star Rene Russo with total and utter abandon.

Kathy Hoffman, Rene Russo

Tired of the anonymity that comes with working on City Channel, Kathy deftly stepped out of the shadows and hung on to Rene like they were childhood friends, grabbing every drop of celebrity luster that fell from her brow. This was her moment to shine.

Kathy Hoffman, Rene Russo

Like a veteran Kathy showed Lorraine and the Xpose gals a thing or two about what real Celebrity Hitch Hiking is about. Grabbing Russo around the neck in a death-hold any professional wrestler would be proud of, kissing her like she was long lost sister. It really was a beautiful thing to behold. We were just proud to have witnessed such a rare moment... Kathy Hoffman is a true Artist of the game and we are merely her Muse.

Kathy Hoffman, Rene Russo

Alas dear friends, we can't give the IFTA CHH 2008 Award to Kathy Hoffman as we've never actually seen nor heard of the City Channel. But if we had, sure there'd be laurels heading her way... So all you journos, hacks and TV presenters out there, get back into Celeb Hitch Hike training and make sure you corral the next celebrity you see into a photo. In 2009 - it could be YOU.

Campbell Hospitalized for Cyst Removal

SAO PAULO, Brazil - Naomi Campbell was hospitalized in Sao Paulo for the removal of a small cyst, her publicist said. The 37-year-old British supermodel, a frequent visitor to Brazil who earlier this month celebrated Carnival in the northeastern city of Salvador, was treated at Sirio Libanes Hospital.

"Following the successful procedure, she is now resting and is looking forward to getting back to work. She would like to thank the doctors who have kindly looked after her," her publicist, Jeff Raymond, said in a statement Tuesday.

Dr. Jose Aristodemo Pinotti, a gynecologist, told The Associated Press by telephone that Campbell underwent abdominal surgery.

"I cannot reveal what Naomi had, nor how serious her condition was, but I can say I operated on her yesterday, that everything went smoothly and that she is completely cured and walking in her room," Pinotti said.

He described the procedure as a laparoscopy, in which doctors use a thin, lighted scope to view internal organs.

Brits underestimate waist size

marie Claire Health news: Obesity

We all wish our stomach was just that little bit flatter, but new research shows Brits actually believe they are slimmer than they are.

The nation's in-denial attitude towards growing waistlines has become a concern for medical experts, who fear ignoring a growing girth could mean missing key warning signs for developing type 2 diabetes. Up to 750,000 people in the UK are currently unaware they have type 2 diabetes.

Leicester University, revealed men underestimated their waist size by an average of 3.1 inches (7.9cm) and women by an average of 2.2 inches (5.5cm).

After questioning 502 people, researchers discovered people from white European backgrounds were worse than those from South Asian backgrounds when estimating their waistlines.

Professor Kamlesh Khunti, who led the research, said: 'This research shows that people need to be educated about the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and about accurately assessing their waist circumference.'

Douglas Smallwood, of the charity Diabetes UK, said: 'To believe that you are more than three inches slimmer than you are is to ignore a clear warning of a risk of diabetes.'

Mamma Mia: Christina Aguilera looks bustier than ever

It seems motherhood has really given singer Christina Aguilera a boost.

The pop star, who gave birth to son Max last month, was looking swell when she popped out for dinner in Hollywood last night.

The 27-year-old singer flaunted her post-pregnancy buxom figure despite being dressed down in a Knicks baseball cap and grey cardigan.

christina aguilera

Aguilera is clearly revelling in her motherhood - and her new-and-improved figure.

She has called her bust 'amazing' and gushed in radio interviews about her "incredible" son.

The 'Dirrty' singer said that she and husband Jordan Bratman are revelling in parenthood: "Every week something new happens.

"It's constant changing and he's constantly changing and doing these incredibly cute things - and stinky things."

But there are reports that not everything in her life is not as uplifting.

According to Perezhilton.com, she is said to be fuming about the lack of interest in her recent People magazine cover in the U.S. and fired members of her team after sales of copies featuring the star and her son sold less than the normal amount.

Oscar for the most surgically enhanced star goes to... the Bride of Wildenstein

If the Academy gave out Oscars for the most surgically-enhanced star, then 'Catwoman' Jocelyn Wildenstein would surely be the winner.

The ex-wife of billionaire art dealer Alec Wildenstein, who died last Tuesday of cancer, joined a host of stars at a pre-Oscar party in Beverly Hills, California yesterday.

While dressed in an elegant black satin corset and skirt, the 62-year-old's red carpet ensemble was largely ignored due to the extensive cosmetic surgery on her face.

Defiant Holly Willoughby insists: 'I love my curves - and I'll keep showing them off'

From her infamous plunging cream frock to her latest daring low-slung backless gown, Holly Willoughby's wardrobe has continued to raise eyebrows in recent months.

But the Dancing On Ice presenter has revealed she has no intention of covering up her car-crash curves any time soon.

In a new interview, the 27-year-old says: “I'm not going to change my entire wardrobe just because of what people have said. I love the dresses I wear, I think they are beautiful and until I think differently, I'll carry on.

“I'm womanly, I have boobs and hips and I dress to accommodate them - that's not going to change. Why should it?”

“People say: 'You're a real curvy woman, you look great – go for it!' and everyone on the show thinks it's hilarious”

“I'm proud of my curves and I've always worn low necklines.”

Holly says that the focus on her décolletage doesn't concern her, describing the press coverage as mostly “positive”.

The star also revealed she wasn't always so buxom, telling the Daily Mirror: “It's ironic that I became a bra model. When I was at school I was known as the flat-chested girl. I blossomed late.”

holly willoughby
She adds that her TV producer husband Dan Baldwin copes well with the amount of attention she receives.

She says: “He's as surprised as I am but he's cool about it. I suppose he's always seen me in low-cut tops so it's nothing new. He loves my body… he loves what I wear.

Not all Dancing On Ice viewers share his opinion. On Sunday night, Holly's backless - and almost bottomless - dress revealed far more flesh than the most daring of necklines.

The Red (Can’t Go Wrong) and the Black (Sober Is So 2008)

HOLLYWOOD — The movie industry must have woken up from the writers’ strike with a rotten hangover, unable to even think about frivolous things like parties and frocks. It was such a buzz kill that quite a few of the actors on the red carpet at the Academy Awards looked as if they either couldn’t be bothered with fashion this year — so not superficial were they — or had dressed in the dark on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The hits were few and the misses, well, seemed to be less a result of actresses who dare to risk the wrath of the fashion policethan a general sense of red carpet malaise.

“I think a lot of people are being safe,” Kimora Lee Simmons, usually a fashion extrovert, commented on the E! channel. “Safe to me reads like boring.”

Certainly the stars deserved some leeway, but you would think that after months of Hollywood gloom and doom, the fashion would have been a little more upbeat. Instead, there seemed to be only two choices — wear red and be seriously appropriate or wear black and be appropriately serious.
